Bat Surveys

All species of bats are protected by law, as are thier roosts and as such it is not legal to injure, disturb or capture bats, destroy or prevent their access to breeding and resting places.  Demolition, renovation or conversion of a building, trimming or removal of mature trees and hedgerows, woodland or watercourses, replacement or repair of roofs, conversion or insulation of a loft including the installation of lighting, treatment of timber, use of insecticide are all activities which may affect bats. You may be asked as part of your planning applicaiton to conduct a survey to ascertain the presence or absence of bats to avoid harming them and their habitat or you may have come across bats whilst carrying out building works in which case you should cease works until

  • a survey has been carried out to assess how your planned works would affect the bats
  • mitigation plans to avoid harming the bats and their habitiats,
  • and if necessary advice given for the applciation of a mitigation licence.

Our Biologist led team have extensive experience in both working with British Wildlife and planning.
